WEDNESDAY 4TH AUGUST - Today, the world renowned conductor Valery Gergiev and the World Orchestra for Peace will take time out on Wednesday August 4 from their rehearsals for their Prom to mark their new identity as UNESCO Artist for Peace which has just been announced. The visit to the Cenotaph will mark the 96th anniversary of the start of World War I.
The unique World Orchestra for Peace and its dynamic conductor Valery Gergiev are in London for a rare appearance at the BBC Proms on Thursday August 5 and then fly to play at the Salzburg Festival, which is marking its 90th anniversary, on August 6. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler’s birth, they will perform Mahler Symphonies No. 4 and No. 5 in their programme, a first both at the Proms and at the Salzburg Festival.
